The Director of Nursing will work with the department leadership to develop and facilitate innovative approaches to minimize risk for the hospitals, physicians and nurses with the use of a variety of data and clinical best practices. The position is responsible for risk management courses for attending and resident physicians and obstetrical staff. The individual manages staff to achieve departmental goals.
Partner with the CNO, CMO and Medical Director to develop risk management programs in multiple clinical specialties focusing on minimizing risk identified in claims data, clinical best practices, adverse events and evidence-based medical literature.
Partner with the CNO in developing nursing specific risk management programs and co-chair the various nursing collaborative committees.
Coordinate the implementation of the on-line risk management courses for physicians and resident and the fetal heart interpretation course:
Assist in selecting relevant course curricula with course vendors Manage internal and external resources Interface with hospital clients on meeting their educational needs Manage the customer service component Monitor course completion of registrants to assure compliance is achieved.
Participate in the coordination and content development of the bi-annual conferences.
Conduct office-based risk assessments for select insured physicians, identified in the underwriting process.
Maintain historical hospital occurrence data reports and access as necessary.
Perform other duties or special projects as required or assigned.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree with RN or related clinical background. Master’s degree preferred.
3-5 years clinical experience.
Minimum one year recent risk management, quality management or patient safety experience.
Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills.
