Position Summary: Under the direction of the Executive Director, Sr. Clinical Risk Manager, Perioperative Services develops risk mitigation and pro-active patient safety initiatives with the goal of minimizing adverse effects on perioperative patients and/or losses to the organization. This role will work in collaboration with the VP of Perioperative Services in identification and development of standardized system wide improvement processes.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop goals and sets objectives for system wide risk mitigation strategies related to perioperative services in line with strategic plan
Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with hospital and medical staff leaders
Oversees and assists in development of patient safety activities to implement MHS and national initiatives
Provides key lessons learned for campuses and assists in development of key lessons learned for system wide learning
Maintain knowledge of national benchmarks and best practice for perioperative services
Participates in hospital/medical staff committee meetings and Medical Centers as required. Attends and serves on professional/civic service organizations as hospital representative.
Facilitate all activities regarding actual or alleged perioperative services liability (not including Workers' Compensation) relative to patients, employees, physicians, and visitors.
Acts as primary liaison between Corporate Risk Management and the Medical Centers for obstetrical services and others as assigned.
Works collaboratively with other departments, including but not limited to, the Director of Quality/Performance Improvement, Senior Executive Team, physician leaders.
Coordinates investigation of sentinel and adverse events (under H&S code 1279.1) Available in a consultative role in response to CDPH inquiries and regulatory requirements.
Functions in a teaching and consultative role for staff and provider education. Evaluates and recommends solutions relating to facility and patient safety, which fosters continuous improvement.
Provide consultative services and acts as a resource to administration, physicians, patients, clinical risk managers and employees relating to risk management services.
Evaluates programs and develops processes as needed to mitigate risk and improve Patient Safety processes.
Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements related to same.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, professional affiliations, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops.
Facilitate investigation and corrective action planning of sentinel events.
Maintain oversight for review and completion of event reporting, accuracy of data for dashboards.
Provide input and collaboration with patient/family grievance process for early resolution and mitigation of claims.
Ability to collaborate in team environment and produce positive outcomes
Diplomatic communication skills to effectively interact with staff, patients & families, as well as physicians and administration; to facilitate resolution of conflict and promote corrective actions
Lean knowledge or certification for continuous improvement
Facilitate improvements to achieve high reliability working with physicians, clinicians and other personnel
Previous risk management experience preferred
Advanced college degree preferred (minimum of Bachelor’s Degree required)
RN or clinical license with minimum of at least 5 years required
Certification in risk management/patient safety obtained within 1 year of hire
