The Manager interfaces cross-organizational areas throughout the hospital in managing a wide breath of responsibilities across the Quality Department & Medical Staff Office. The Manager reports directly to the Quality Medical Officer.
The position coordinates and implements programs of quality, safety and professionalism. Specifically:
manipulating data into an understandable and actionable plan.
teaching the chairs and chiefs of the medical staff services how to use, communicate, and access the information.
oversight of the programs of standard work recently developed in the medical staff services require interface with not just the medical staff but with the quality department, both locally and at shared services.
management of the peer review process (MPEC’s)
focused reviews in conjunction with medical chairs and chiefs
oversight of the physician professionalism program – Vanderbilt CORS & PARS.
There are new programs that need development and oversight around quality, professionalism, and safety.
Data from these new programs, CRIMSON, medication reconciliation and morbidity & mortality conferences will be analyzed and prepared for medical staff leaders and other key contributors on a scheduled basis for performance, safety, quality, and professionalism improvement.
Additionally, the trending data (not collection) will be analyzed and incorporated into the physicians ongoing professional practice review, ensuring that all physicians have this completed every 8 months.
Analyze data from Crimson and create meaningful reports for physicians and medical staff leadership that assists in improving performance.
These programs span both Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach Hospital with some programs also active at Community Hospital Long Beach.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

PHYSICIAN PEER REVIEW SYSTEM: (Multi-specialty Physician Excellence Committees – MPEC’s). Manages 5 different MPEC’s, and the MPEC Steering Committee (Solely at LBM & MCWHLB). Coordinates all peer review cases, assignment to reviewers, ensures timely reviews, creation of agendas and meeting books, follow-through, notification, and referrals to chairs of departments and involved physicians and referrals to other medical center leadership as needed. Attends all meetings and runs with the committee chairs.
PHYSICIAN PROFESSIONALISM SYSTEM: aka Vanderbilt Co-worker Observation Reporting System (CORS) and Patient Advocacy Reporting System (PARS), (Solely at LBM & MCWHLB) – Manages the system at LBMMC and MCWHLB, key liaison with Vanderbilt’s Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy and medical staff leadership for professionalism issues. Responsible for reviewing all physician professionalism reports, reviews with co-chairs of professionalism committee, consolidate professionalism data for reporting to medical staff leadership. Assign messengers based on campus and medical staff specialty and seniority and ensures follow-through of reports by ensuring messages delivered, feedback from messengers, and review of deliveries and feedback notes with professionalism committee chairs.
CRIMSON TO SUPPORT MULTIPLE CLINICAL SERVICE LINES/CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE with clinical outcomes. Crimson is a data physician performance data management platform. Crimson provides clinical data such as length of stay, complications, and resource utilization – Position will have dual responsibility to both manage crimson data projects and back up extraction of information, analysis, manipulation and presentation of crimson data for select projects. Currently has extracted, analyzed and created service line metrics and outcomes for colorectal, obstetrics, cardiothoracic, and joint and spine and presented this data to senior administration.
MEDICATION RECONCILIATION: Manage the analysis, distribution of results, and discussion with individual practitioners concerning physician adherence to completing medication reconciliation at admission and discharge across 3 campuses and to over 1200 physicians. Manages performance improvement efforts to maximize medication reconciliation at admission and discharge of patients.
MORTALITY & MORBIDITY CONFERENCES: Managing the standardization of processes and collection, retention and distribution of data and learnings from M&M’s focusing on opportunities for improvement across the care spectrum.
The role of the Manager is to plan, execute and manage both the implementation process and ongoing work stream operations for new and existing projects throughout Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children's and Women's hospital campuses, adhering to deadlines, deliverables, and within budget. This includes assessing resources and coordinating the efforts of business sponsors, stakeholders, and team members in order to deliver projects according to plan. The Manager, together with executive leadership/ Quality Medical Officer, will also define the department's objectives, ensuring they are aligned with LBMC, MCWHLB, CHLB, and MemorialCare, ensuring all deliverables and milestones are met. The role of the Manager is designed to provide and manage continuous activities that identify, evaluate and improve the quality and safety of care and services, and physician professionalism provided to all patients. The Manager will maintain a system that utilizes structured, comprehensive review of the quality, safety and appropriateness of services delivered by the hospital departments and network of providers to assure compliance, risk mitigation and patient safety.
The Manager will have oversight over 2 RN reviewers, a Crimson program coordinator and a crimson data analyst.
* Minimum years of experience 2 years
* Have intermediate to advanced knowledge of project management software, such as Microsoft Project. Advances knowledge of various software programs such as Microsoft Office, Visio, PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Adobe.
* Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills. Able to effectively determine communication styles of team members who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines. Strong interpersonal skills
* Excel at directing, working and communicating with internal and external staff of all levels
* Ability to successfully apply Lean methodology in alignment with team objectives to enhance current processes across the system.
