Employee will serve as a Surgical Technician assigned to the Operating Room (OR) Suite located at the Veterans Health Care System in Ann Arbor, MI. You will function at an advanced level with specific and specialized training and skills working independently to provide a wide range of support to the professional nurse and physician in the OR. Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following: Provides assistance to the surgeon and other team members during surgical procedures. Functions as a primary scrub person responsible for handling instruments, supplies and equipment during all surgical procedures performed in: Cardiac, Peripheral Vascular, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Orthopedic, Urology, Plastic, Oral surgery, Thoracic, Gynecology, and General Surgery procedures. Prepares, organizes and maintains highly complex sterile surgical setups. Plans and discusses each procedure with surgical team to ensure all supplies and equipment are available prior to surgical procedures. Provides guidance and support to professional staff during surgical procedures. Understands the proper procedure and safety precautions for disinfecting surgical instruments. Performs non-technical maintenance of equipment to prevent malfunctions. Recognizes potentially hazardous situations and takes corrective action. Assesses equipment needs and maintains adequate stock of supplies and materials. Performs other related duties as assigned. WORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
