The duties of the assigned RN to the Gynecology providers are as follows: NURSING: Works efficiently and effectively with assigned gynecology provider(s) and healthcare team members to assure efficient patient care, patient safety, while providing high quality outcomes and exceptional patient/family experiences. Accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care for assigned patient population served. Supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. Provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. Delegates patient care to other members of the Gynecological Healthcare Team who function in a nursing role: according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources. Possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. Responsible for applying evidence-based nursing practice to the care of women over the course of their lifespan. Involves the integration of education and research into the practice through the application of standards and guidelines. Accountable for the quality of care rendered CLINIC: Assists assigned provider during physical assessments, exam and procedures. Data collection and assessment as established and directed by clinical providers. This information is used to establish goals and priorities in accordance with patient care, staff needs, and organizational objectives. Provides direct patient care to veterans receiving gynecological services at CAVHS. Triages assigned outpatient clinic patients during appointments as well as patient phone calls received. Facilitates and supports the use of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) in the outpatient clinical setting. SURGERY: Facilitates oversight and scheduling of gynecological surgical interventions using the SRO package and collaboration with the Surgery & Anesthesia Service OR Scheduler. Will also be assigned as a back-up for peer RN Surgery Schedulers. Collaborates with assigned surgeons and OR staff to facilitate availability of required equipment and supplies during operative procedures. Communicates effectively and efficiently with all members of the operative team, Surgery & Anesthesia staff to ensure timely access of care and positive patient/family experiences for assigned veterans receiving gynecological services.
